Vancouver Boudoir Photoshoot with Carly Stone - Testimonial Review
Being a boudoir photographer, I have the privilege of meeting women from all walks of life. Being able to connect, hear their stories and create images that they will cherish for the rest of their lives is a total honour.
And while 9 out of 10 of the women that I work with in my Vancouver boudoir sessions are the everyday woman (ie. Having never been photographed professionally before - let alone doing something so intimate as a boudoir photoshoot). Every now and again though, I work with women who are accustomed to being in the spotlight. Where being in front of the camera is the norm.
One such woman I recently had the opportunity to photograph is Carly Stone.
Carly is a model and body positivity activist with a heart of gold. Her heart + energy are contagious and they radiate outwards through the camera lens.
Here's what Carly had to say about her boudoir session with me and a few of our favourite of the gorgeous, and intimate boudoir images I captured of her during our shoot:
Chelsey: What was your biggest fear before hiring me? Did it come true, and if not, what happened instead?
Carly: "When I work with new photographers, I find there’s always a small “fear” that visions may not align, but I had seen your work before and knew it would turn out beautiful, so I was just excited to start a new collaboration!"
Chelsey: What, specifically, was your favourite part of your experience, and why?
Carly: "My favourite part of the experience was in moments where we were both like “Oh, yes this!”
Part of photography/being photographed is refining what we already know, but also stumbling upon new and exciting posées & techniques. We definitely had a few “AHA” moments which just fuelled the excitement for the results."
Chelsey: How did you know you were ready for a boudoir shoot? And what would you say to someone who doesn't feel ready?
Carly: "I’m always ready for boudoir!
But for someone who’s not ready, I would say to put on your favourite lingerie (or treat yourself to something new and beautiful), and just get comfortable wearing it around your home. In public, we’re so covered up, and at home, it’s ingrained that lingerie is “for” our partner, or just for function, not for ourselves to feel beautiful.
I think there’s also still this antiquated sense of guilt or shame for women to embrace their bodies and sexuality, so getting comfortable with being beautiful for yourself, by yourself, is a very empowering feeling. Spend some time checking yourself out in the mirror while wearing your cutest stuff!"
Chelsey: If you were to recommend me to your best friend, what would you say?
Carly: "I would first let my friend know that you’re a female photographer (which usually makes women - especially shy women - feel much more at ease). I would say you’re open, warm, and very professional. I would also tell them not to worry about what to do when they get there, because you’re good at prompting and directing in a way that makes the person feel comfortable. You know how to capture beautiful images and angles, so the photos will turn out wonderful, regardless of whether the subject is a model, or not."
Thank you Carly, for allowing me to capture such beautiful and intimate images of you, all while sharing your story alongside them.
