As you all know I am a HUGE advocate for body positivity. I truly do believe that every woman is stunning from her head to her toes.
...That being said there are times when I don't feel like anything other than a troll. The voices of negativity can be so strong that it's hard to break the cycle of bad body image thoughts.
I realize that appearances really are not a fraction of all that is important, but I do believe that it is important to see ourselves with confidence and appreciation.
For those times when I'm in a funk about my body that I just can't get out of, that's when I turn to music. I get up, shake it off and dance it out.
Here are a couple of my favorite songs from my Confidence Playlist. Enjoy!
1.) India Arie - Video: An oldie but a goodie. All you need to do is repeat after me
I’m not the average girl from your video, And I ain’t built like a supermodel. But I learned to love myself unconditionally, Because I am a queen.
2.) Beyonce - Flawless: What could be better than the Queen Bey herself telling you that you are Flawless? The part that always gets me most pumped is when Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is ending her speech on feminism (which based on her definition, should not get the bad rap it has been given by some).
Feminist: the person who believes in the social Political, and economic equality of the sexes
3.) TLC - Unpretty: Here is another one that has been on this list for a number of years for me.
Find out who am I to Be in the position to make me feel So damn unpretty. I'll make you feel unpretty too
It always struck a chord with me. It's important to remember how you treat yourself and think of yourself really does impact those who are around you as well.
And lastly, if you're looking for a good old fashioned song that will just make you want to get up and bust a move, I recommend none other than..
4.) Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk
Gotta kiss myself I'm so pretty
I'm too hot, Called a police and a fireman. I'm too hot, Make a dragon wanna retire, man.
