Dedicated to Lara - Wife, Mother, Survivor.
Today I write to you all about Lara.
She is a wife, a mother of three boys, and someone that I am grateful to call a near and dear friend.
In the fall of 2014, Lara was diagnosed with breast cancer. Chemotherapy began without delay and a lumpectomy shortly took place after that.
In the spring that followed, she was scheduled to undergo a double mastectomy.
Knowing this, one day when we were hanging out I offered, “If you’re interested, I’d love to photograph you”.
At first she turned me down. But soon before she was scheduled for her surgery, she changed her mind.
T-minus 3 days to the surgery, we had her photoshoot and I took these beautiful glamour portraits of her.
To see someone who is going through chemo, radiation, surgeries and the overall trauma of a experiencing a life threatening illness; all while maintaining their determination, optimism and sense of humour, is a testament of her strength of character.
These portraits are ones that her family will cherish for the rest of their lives. I am so honoured to have had the privilege of being able to photograph Lara.
To end this post on an even more wonderful note, I am happy to say that after numerous rounds of chemo and radiation later, she is now in remission.
Thank you goes to Lindsay MacLean for doing such a wonderful job on Lara’s makeup and helping her to feel amazing.
Every woman deserves to feel beautiful. If you, or one of your loved ones have been going through similar treatments, I would love to photograph you.
